Democratic state assembly candidate Rich Holober asked the Secretary of State Friday, March 7 to look into San Mateo County’s ban on his inclusion of endorsements — such as U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer — in his ballot statements. Before the state could answer, the county Election’s Office reviewed election law and agreed with the Holober campaign, said Elections Manager David Tom.
Election law prohibits mentioning one’s opponents in ballot statements but not the use of endorsements. In fact, Holober spokesman Dominic Chan said, Holober used endorsements in 1997 when he ran for the Community College District without a word of opposition.
According to Tom, Holober can expect the same this time around.
