Vote for new representative
March 21, 2008
We got a head's up from the county elections office today. Monday, March 24, is the deadline to register to vote in the April 8 special congressional open primary. The spring election process will ultimately seat a replacement for the late U.S. Rep. Tom Lantos, who represented much of the area.
During the open primary, all candidates from every party will run on the same ballot. If one of them succeeds in getting a majority vote, no runoff will be scheduled. That means we may know Lantos' successor on April 8.
To register in San Mateo County, you must be a citizen, a county resident, at least 18 on Election Day, not in prison or parole for a felony, and mentally competent.
County Chief Elections Officer Warren Slocum said registration cards are available at his office as well as any public library, city hall or post office. They can also be downloaded at Web Link.
