Countdown to Close of Candidate Filing
A few days remain to file to run for local elective office. Some offices may be extended.
(Redwood City, CA) With the August 10th deadline to file for office looming, San Mateo County Chief Elections Officer, Warren Slocum, issued a final call to voters in San Mateo County to serve their local community by running for office on the November 6th Ballot.
“Seeking elective office requires a lot of commitment, but speaking from my experience, hard work reaps numerous rewards; as an elected official, your work will have tangible impact in improving the lives of members of your community. I encourage anyone interested in serving to step forward,” stated Slocum.
With just one week remaining until the close of filing on August 10th at 5:00 p.m., candidates should make plans now to file their papers with the Elections Office to avoid the rush at the deadline and allow enough time to prepare a candidate statement. To make an appointment or obtain information, prospective candidates may call (650) 312-5370 and ask for Steve Dennison, the Candidate Filing Officer, or send an e-mail to sdennison@smcare.org.
If an eligible incumbent does not file to run for re-election by 5:00 p.m. on August 10th, the period is extended and candidates (except incumbents) will have until 5:00 p.m. on August 15th, to complete the filing requirements for that office.
Candidates for city offices file all candidacy paperwork with the City Clerk.
"Active leaders are the key to sustaining the well-being of your community. I encourage people who are interested in public service to take out nomination papers in the few days that remain before the filing period closes," Slocum said.
The Official Roster of Candidates is available on the Elections Division web site, www.shapethefuture.org. The Official Roster is updated
every evening about 5:30 p.m. and contains not only the names of those who have taken out papers to run, but those who have officially
filed their papers and will be on the ballot in November. The Roster also includes the districts where no one has filed to run.
