Last Chance Candidate Seminar
Final Seminar for November 2007 Candidates is next Monday!

(Redwood City, CA)  The San Mateo County Elections Office will hold a workshop, entitled “Election Candidacy 101,” one last time for all potential candidates considering a run for office in November 2007. This informative seminar will be held on Monday, July 23rd from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at 40 Tower Road in San Mateo.

“We are putting the call out to all candidates considering a run for office in November 2007,” said Chief Elections Officer, Warren Slocum. “This is a great opportunity for candidates to meet with key elections staff and get answers to questions about the rules, deadlines, and procedures that apply to candidates and campaigns.” Slocum continued, “Our Candidate Seminars help demystify the process and facilitate more interest in running for office.”

The Elections Office has held the seminar twice so far, and on both occasions, the participants walked away with valuable knowledge and gratification for the support they received. Paul Seto, a first-time candidate running for Millbrae City Council, said the election staff seemed “genuinely interested in helping people like me to navigate through the process (of running for public office).”

The seminar agenda and other information can be found on the Elections’ website, www.shapethefuture.org. The roster of candidates who have obtained nomination papers from the Elections Division is also on the website.

For candidates who will not be able to attend the seminar, this year’s Candidate’s Guide is posted online at www.shapethefuture.org as an at-your-fingertips reference guide that can be shared with other members of a campaign team or used to print additional copies.

The topics covered will include campaign finance reports, the filing process, candidate statements, important deadlines, voter registration, absentee voting, and various elections rules and regulations governing campaign activities.
