Candidates May File To Run For Local Office
Filing period is open July 16th through August 10th
(Redwood City, CA) San Mateo County Chief Elections Officer, Warren Slocum, today announces the beginning of the official filing period, July 16th through August 10th, for candidates running for local offices in the Consolidated Municipal, School & Special District Election scheduled for November 6, 2007.
The jurisdictions with candidate selections for the November 6, 2007 Ballot include 14 School Districts, 19 Special Districts, and 13 Cities in San Mateo County (a listing of these offices is enclosed).
“I encourage all voters to become more engaged and active in their community institutions,” said Slocum. “Running for local office is a noble calling and a great way to make a difference in the community.”
For candidates seeking local elected office, the filing period opens on Monday, July 16, 2007 at 8:00 A.M. and runs through 5:00 P.M. Friday, August 10, 2007. Candidates for municipal offices must file their nomination papers with the City Clerk of their respective city. If an eligible incumbent has not filed by that later date and hour, the period is extended and candidates (other than the incumbent) will have until 5:00 P.M. on August 15, 2007 to complete the nomination requirements for that office.
Prospective candidates can prepare for a run for public office by attending the remaining Candidate Seminar at 40 Tower Road in San Mateo on Monday, July 23, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. or visit the San Mateo County Elections’ website www.shapethefuture.org for information and copy of the Candidate Handbook & Resource Guide. The Candidate Filing Officer, Steve Dennison, and staff at the Elections Division will be meeting with prospective candidates throughout the filing period. Slocum added, “We encourage candidates to call (650) 312-5222 and make an appointment so they can receive fast, personalized service.”
