(Redwood City, CA) Tonight, the San Mateo County Elections Office will hold a workshop entitled “Election Candidate 101 Seminar,” for all potential candidates considering a run for office in November of 2007. This informative seminar will be held at 6 p.m. at the Elections Office at 40 Tower Road in San Mateo. “This is an opportunity for any candidate interested in running for office, or any voter simply interested in the election process, to meet with key elections staff and get answers to questions about the rules, deadlines, and procedures that apply to local candidates and campaigns,” said Chief Elections Officer Warren Slocum. “There are some important issues that candidates must consider before throwing their hat in the ring, and our Candidate Seminars help demystify the process and facilitate more interest in running for office.” Additional information can be found on the Elections’ website, www.shapethefuture.org. The topics covered will include campaign finance reports, the filing process, candidate statements, important deadlines, voter registration, absentee voting, and various elections rules and regulations governing campaign activities. The jurisdictions with candidate elections scheduled for the November 6, 2007 Ballot include 14 School Districts, 19 Special Districts, and 13 Cities in San Mateo County. An undetermined number of local ballot measures will also appear on the ballot. They include: Municipalities: Belmont, Brisbane, Burlingame, Foster City, Half Moon Bay, Millbrae, Portola Valley, Redwood City, San Bruno, San Carlos, San Mateo, South San Francisco, and Woodside.
