(Redwood City, CA) - San Mateo County's Chief Elections Officer, Warren Slocum, announced the updates for election night reporting and procedures for receiving election results for the Gubernatorial General Election on Tuesday, November 7, 2006.
What’s New?
Election Night at the Old Courthouse. The Elections Office will be holding its Election Night celebration at the historic Old Courthouse, 2200 Broadway in Redwood City. The Courthouse Museum is a fitting location in recognition of 150 years of voting in San Mateo County. Chief Elections Officer Warren Slocum and San Mateo County History Museum Director Mitch Postel invite community members, candidates and media representatives to attend the election night gathering. The event will begin at 7:30pm and continue until the all the precincts have reports are in. Periodic vote reports, internet access, and television coverage will be provided, along with refreshments. It is an informal, drop-in event for anyone interested in this election and the results. Elections staff will be on hand to answer questions, the museum galleries and giftshop will be open and docents with be on hand to answer questions.
Reporting Schedule. All polling sites will close at 8:00 p.m. on election night. However, due to the transitional nature of this year in elections (new equipment, new procedures, and a one-time vote central count process for November 2006), the release of results will be slower than in years past. While the first report issued will still be the same, (8:05 pm for the first absentee results report), live results from individual precincts will begin at 10:30 pm. The reports will be issued every hour thereafter, until all precincts have reported. Individual precinct reports will be available online at the end of the evening for the first time ever in San Mateo County. The reporting schedule for the November 7th Gubernatorial General will be as follows:
8:05 pm Absentee Ballots, Report #1 (everything received before Election Day)
8:30 pm Mail Ballot Precinct Results (36 precincts)
9:00 pm Absentee Ballots, Report #2 (everything processed Election Day)
9:30 pm Universal Voting Center Results (votes cast electronically at the UVCs)
10:30 pm Live Precinct Results
11:30 pm Live Precinct Results
12:30 pm Live Precinct Results
1:30 pm Live Precinct Results (we expect to be done by 2:00am)
What’s Returning?
The Web Cam. This real time camera will allow folks at home to watch the central count process at the Elections Warehouse on Election Night. It’s an effort to increase transparency in our operations and give the public a birds-eye view of the process.
Results on the Internet. A Reporting & Results section of www.shapethefuture.org was created to give candidates, the media and the public a sneak preview of the reports that will be issued on election night and in the 28 day canvass period that follows the election. Reports are available in both pdf and HTML formats and posted shortly after the release of results according to the posted schedule.
Elections Staff Assistance Available. Staff will be available to answer questions up until precinct reporting is completed on election night. You may also visit www.shapethefuture.org for results and additional information.
