REDWOOD CITY, CA— The San Mateo County Elections Office will hold a workshop, entitled “The Mechanics of Running for Public Office,” for all potential candidates considering a run for office in June of 2006. This informative seminar will be held on Saturday, February 18th from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at 40 Tower Road in San Mateo. “We are putting the call out to all candidates considering a run for office in June 2006,” said Chief Elections Officer, Warren Slocum. “This is a great opportunity for candidates to meet with key elections staff and get answers to questions about the rules, deadlines, and procedures that apply to candidates and campaigns,” Slocum continued, “our Candidate Seminars help demystify the process and facilitate more interest in running for office.” The seminar agenda and other information can be found on the Elections’ website, www.shapethefuture.org. The roster of candidates that have obtained nomination papers from the Elections Division is also on the web site. The roster also includes a list of offices for which no candidates have currently filed. For candidates who will not be able to attend the seminar, the elections website features a podcast of the first candidate seminar held on February 8th. Candidates can listen to the podcast and follow along in the Candidate’s Guide that is also posted on www.shapethefuture.org. To RSVP for the seminar, attendees may contact Mark Numainville, the Candidate Filing Officer, at 650.312.5370 or e-mail mnumainville@smcare.org with their name, the office they are seeking, and the number of persons in their party. The topics covered will include campaign finance reports, the filing process, candidate statements, important deadlines, voter registration, absentee voting, and various elections rules and regulations governing campaign activities.
