We’re Having an Election
County announces offices up for election and filing deadlines.

REDWOOD CITY, CA— San Mateo County Chief Elections Officer, Warren Slocum, has posted the official public notice of the date and scope of the primary election set for June 6, 2006. Slocum announced, “The Gubernatorial Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, the polls will be open from 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M.”

A total of over 200 offices are up for grabs at the June Primary. The actual number of races that appear on any given ballot will depend on district lines, the number of contested races, and the number of 3rd party candidates. The total includes some 89 central committee offices to be filled by local voters of the qualified political parties.

“We expect a very busy candidate filing period,” said Slocum, “There are many high profile offices on the ballot in June and San Mateo County has always had a very engaged and active political community.”

Currently, two state initiatives have qualified for the June 6th ballot. The exact number of local measures, if any, will not be known until the March 10 deadline for submitting a local measure. No local measures have been filed to date.

For candidates seeking local elected office, the filing period opens on Monday, February 13, 2006 and runs through 5:00 P.M. Friday, March 10, 2006. If an eligible incumbent has not filed for specified offices by that later date and hour, the period is extended and candidates will have until 5:00 P.M. on March 15, 2006, to complete the nomination requirements.

Treasurer: 4 year term commencing January 8, 2007
Attorney General: 4 year term commencing January 8, 2007
Superintendent of Public Instruction (Non-Partisan): 4 year term commencing January 8, 2007
Insurance Commissioner: 4 year term commencing January 8, 2007
State Board of Equalization, District #1: 4 year term commencing January 8, 2007
