Redwood City, CA — With the August 12 deadline to file for office looming,San Mateo County Chief Elections Officer, Warren Slocum , issued a final call to voters in San Mateo County to serve their local community by running for office on the November 8, 2005 ballot.
“There is no higher public calling than seeking elective office. Decision makers at the local level are the cornerstone of the community and I encourage voters to become active and throw their hat in the ring,” stated Slocum.
With just one week remaining until the close of filing on August 12 at 5:00 p.m. , candidates should make plans now to file their papers with the Elections Office to avoid the rush at the deadline and allow enough time to prepare a candidate statement. To make an appointment or obtain information, prospective candidates may call (650) 312-5370 and ask for Mark Numainville , the Candidate Filing Officer.
If an eligible incumbent does not file to run for re-election by 5:00 p.m. on August 12, the period is extended and candidates (except incumbents) will have until 5:00 P.M. on August 17, 2005 , to complete the filing requirements for that office.
Candidates for city offices file all candidacy paperwork with the City Clerk.
"At this time, there are six districts with open positions where no one has filed to run for a seat on the board. The vitality of our community depends on participation. I encourage people who are interested in public service to step forward in the few days that remain before the filing period closes," Slocum stated.
A roster of candidates that have filed to run is available on the Elections Division web site www.shapethefuture.org . The roster also contains a list of district that have not had any candidates file to run for office.
