Redwood City, CA – While wrapping up the March 8th Election, and in the midst of the May 3rd all-mail election, the County Elections Department announced that the Town of Atherton has qualified for the June 7, 2005 Special Election ballot.

“The term ‘off-year’ is a bit of a misnomer,” said Warren Slocum, San Mateo County’s Chief Elections Officer, “We may have as many as six elections in 2005; involving nearly every voter in the county!” Indeed, this will be a busy year in elections with measures and offices up for election in as many as 49 school districts, cities, and special districts.

The Atherton measure was the only measure to qualify for the June 7, 2005 ballot by the March 11, 2005 deadline.

The first major deadline for the Atherton special election is the submission of Primary Arguments For and Against Ballot Measures. Arguments must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March 21, 2005 at the City Clerk’s office in Atherton.

To be eligible to vote on the measure, citizens must be a resident of the Town of Atherton and be registered to vote. The deadline to register for the June 7, 2005 Special Election is May 23, 2005.

Slocum also announced that the 10-calendar-day public review period set by law to allow voters to review information submitted to the County of San Mateo to be printed in the voter information pamphlet at the June 7, 2005 Special Election began Friday, March 11th at 5:00 p.m. This review period will end Monday, March 21, 2005 at 5:00 p.m.

For more information on the public review period, voter registration, or other election information, please contact the Elections Division at (650) 312-5222 or visit www.shapethefuture.org.
