CANDIDATE FILING PERIOD CLOSES – EXTENSIONS ANNOUNCED
 

REDWOOD CITY, CA — The filing period for candidates and ballot measures for the November 2, 2004 Presidential General Election closed today, August 6, 2004 at 5:00 PM, according to San Mateo County’s Chief Election s Officer, Warren Slocum .

When one or more eligible incumbents have not filed nomination papers by today’s deadline, state law provides for an extension of five calendar days to allow non-incumbent candidates to declare candidacy. That five-day extension period will close at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, August 11, 2004. For additional assistance or to schedule a filing appointment, contact the Election s Office Filing Officer at (650) 312.5370.

Today was also the deadline for submission of local ballot measures. Primary arguments in favor of or against qualified ballot measures are due filed by 5:00 PM on Friday, August 13, 2004, and rebuttals to those primary arguments are due filed by 5:00 PM on Monday, August 23, 2004.
