What is democracyLIVE! ?
democracyLIVE! is the San Mateo County Student Poll Worker program, aimed at giving students an opportunity to get an inside look at the election world. Student Poll Workers are members of the Elections team that help manage polling place operations on Election Day. It’s a great way to learn about America's elections process and earn money at the same time!
San Mateo County is divided into geographically-determined voting groups called precincts. Every voter lives in a specific precinct and can vote in person at their assigned polling place on Election Day. A Precinct Board is staffed with one Inspector and at least two Judges who ensure the integrity of the election process at that precinct. Student Poll Workers will be Judges at their polling place on Election Day.
Student Poll Workers are required to:
- Attend a training class
- Set up voting machines, tables and other precinct supplies
- Open and close the polling place (work 6am -
9pm)
- Locate voter names on the roster
- Issue voters official ballot
- Assist voters in any phase of the voting process
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Chief Election Official
