The government makes many important decisions about your every day life. One example is education. You spend many hours in school and lots of government decisions shape how your hours are spent. What books you read, what kinds of teachers you have, and what lessons your teachers teach are all part of decisions that the government makes.

You can find out about education and other examples by looking at what is around you. Ask your family to explain an article in the newspaper, watch television news programs with an adult who can explain them to you, and check out websites listed on the last page that put issues in terms that you can understand.
